India’s Ministry of External Affairs has revised passport application fees across all booklet types and service categories, with the new rates taking effect from July 1, 2026. The changes are formalized through the Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026, an amendment to the Passports Rules, 1980 under Section 24 of the Passports Act, 1967.
The notification, dated June 20, 2026, was published by the Ministry of External Affairs on June 25, 2026.
Revised India Passport Fee Structure from July 1, 2026
The table below covers the full set of changes applicable to Indian passport holders applying at Passport Seva Kendras across cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad.
| Booklet Type | Service Category | Previous Fee | Revised Fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| 36-page (fresh or reissue) | Regular | ₹1,500 | ₹2,500 |
| 36-page (fresh or reissue) | Tatkal | ₹3,500 | ₹5,000 |
| 60-page (fresh or reissue) | Regular | ₹2,000 | ₹3,500 |
| 60-page (fresh or reissue) | Tatkal | ₹4,000 | ₹6,000 |
The revised schedule substitutes Schedule IV to the Passports Rules, 1980 in its entirety.
Applications submitted before July 1, 2026 are processed under the existing fee structure.
Who the India Passport Fee Hike Applies To
The amended rules establish two age-based sub-categories within the revised schedule:
- Applicants aged 18 and above, including minors aged 15 to 18 years if they apply under this category
- Minor applicants below 18 years of age
Both fresh applications and reissue requests fall under the revised rates, regardless of whether the applicant is applying for the first time or renewing an existing passport.
For Indian travelers who frequently need visa applications stamped in their passports and prefer a 60-page booklet to avoid running out of pages, the regular fee now stands at ₹3,500. Applicants who need their passport processed urgently through the tatkal route will pay ₹6,000 for the 60-page variant.
